KINGSTON, Ont. - For the second straight year, St. Lawrence College (SLC) combined efforts with Queen's University to co-host cross-country invitationals at Fort Henry hill on Saturday, Sept. 14.

SLC would begin the day with the women's 5 km race at 10 a.m. with runners from all three SLC campuses, Algonquin, Fanshawe, Loyalist, Fleming, Seneca, and Humber College.

New to the Vikings squad, Courtney Brohart positioned herself with the lead pack right from the start. The strategy would pay off as Courtney would break away from down the final stretch and finish race in 20:11.1, a full five seconds ahead of second place winner, Jocelyn Fry from Fanshawe College. Oliva Patton from Fleming College would round out the top three female runners. 

Returning for her second season, this time with the Vikings, Rebecca Jaros finished a strong race in 12th place. Overall, as a team, the Vikings placed second overall in the team standings. Here's how the remaining SLC runners finished the race: 

"This was certainly a strong showing by our women's team today," said Vikings head coach Randy Zabukovec.

Runners from SLC Cornwall made an excellent showing, placing sixth overall in the team division, only 11 points out from finishing fourth overall.

"We did a lot of recruiting for this year, and found some excellent runners. After only having a handful of runners last year, this was really refreshing to have a full squad this year," said Sharks assistant coach Gilles Parisien. 

The men's 8 km race was dominated by out of town Colleges, with Clinton Smith of Fanshawe College never breaking stride, winning in an impressive time of 25:22.8. Kieran Day of Algonquin College finished second (25:55.1), and Riley Hubbard-Olesky from Fleming College won the bronze medal (26:07.2).

The top SLC runner in the men's race was Vikings James Commodore, who finished 26th overall out of the 50 participant race. Here is how the remaining SLC male runners finished: 

The Vikings next race will be at the Fanshawe College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Sharks and Schooners next race is at the Redeemer College Invitational.
