HUMBER 3, LOYALIST 1
WINDSOR, Ont. - The Humber Hawks still remain as one of the top threats for the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect being held at St. Clair's SportsPlex on Friday.
In this match-up, both teams looked very strong from the start as Loyalist battled back and forth the majority of the first set with Humber, but fell to a 25-21 defeat.
The highly energetic atmosphere continued early in the start of the second set. Humber had some key plays late in the set that put pressure on the Loyalist which eventually was too much for the team to handle as they fell yet another set by a score of 25-17.
One of the major turning points for the Loyalist team came in the third set as they fought hard late to give the Lancers the edge to overcome the Hawks 25-23. As Loyalist and Humber continued into the fourth set Humber prevailed with the dominating play which gave the Hawks the final set win 25-16, as well as the 3-1 final.
Leading the Humber Hawks was Devan O'Conner who had 17 kills and four aces. Strong play was also shown by Breanna Golding who contributed 17 kills and one ace. Gabie Miletic displayed great teamwork, which resulted in an outstanding 49 assists.
Loyalist Lancers notable players were Sara Piana Yafu with a team-high 17 kills and one stuff block. Christine Madago also displayed great offence by contributing seven kills and one stuff block as well.
The Players of the Game were received by Humber's O'Conner, and Loyalist's Piana-Yafu.
With the win Humber will now advance into the semi-final game at 8 p.m. on Saturday against the St. Clair Saints.
