HAMILTON, Ont. - In what Mohawk head coach Andrew Nicholson called the best match he's seen in his five years at the college, the Mountaineers fashioned a great comeback to beat Cambrian in OCAA women's volleyball on Saturday.
The Golden Shield from Sudbury, Ont., won the first two sets, but the Mountaineers fought back for a wild 16-25, 24-26, 29-27, 25-27, 21-19 win. The match took the better part of two and a half hours and the fans were on the edge of their seats.
Brittany Gingrich led the Mohawk offence with 16 kills, one service ace and two stuff blocks. Alexandria Pulham had 14 kills, one ace and one block and Kirsten Bialachowski provided 13 kills and five blocks. Yvonne Mann had 43 assists. Alessandra Assaf and Jasmine Zanussi each had 22 kills while Jessna Marmo added 20.
For Cambrian, Kelsey Watson had 13 kills one ace and four blocks. Sara Charlton had 11 kills, one ace and seven blocks. Toni Teale produced 41 assists. Emily Redwood had 25 digs.
Mohawk improved its record to 5-8 and Cambrian fell to 7-6.
