HAMILTON, Ont., Two red hot OCAA men's volleyball teams hit the floor at Mohawk College on Friday night with the home team putting its 6-0 record on the line against the Fanshawe Falcons, who were 7-1 going into the contest. But the Mountaineers scored a 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 triumph to end their London opponent's seven game win streak.
Eric Girard led Mohawk with 19 kills and three service aces. Trevor McLaughlin had 11 kills, one ace, one stuff block and nine digs. Chris Spack had 38 assists.
For Fanshawe, Andre Foreman collected 10 kills and David AuCoin added nine kills. Sebastian Lethbridge came up with 17 assists.
Meantime, the Fanshawe women swept Mohawk 25-17, 25-21, 25-21.
Carley Nugteren led the Falcons with eight kills and four blocks. Kristen Bond had six kills, two aces and one block. Hunter Medd chipped in with six kills and one ace. Darian Gropp had 19 assists.
Brittany Gingrich paced the Mountaineers with six kills, two aces and one block. Alexandria Pulham had five kills and two blocks. Yvonne Mann managed 15 assists.
As a result of the match the Fanshawe women improved to 7-2, while Mohawk fell to 2-5.
