NORTH BAY, Ont. - Nipissing Lady Lakers head coach Marc LaRochelle is pleased to announce the commitment of Jade DeCoste and Brittany MacComish to attend Nipissing University in the fall of 2012.
DeCoste a Hamilton, Ont. native, is a 5-foot-7 setter that plays club volleyball for the Burlington Blaze. In 2012, she captained her Blaze team to an OVA provincial division one, tier two gold medal along with an OVA challenge cup gold medal and Burgarski Cup silver medal. Last season the Blaze put together an impressive provincial championship run and finished fourth in the province and DeCoste was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
"I loved the size of the University and the community feel," said DeCoste about her decision to attend Nipissing. "I felt like I belonged there when I first visited."
"Jade is a very athletic setter," said LaRochelle. "She gets to a lot of balls and her location is very consistent. As with any setter it will take some time to adjust to a new system and new hitters, however, I have full confidence that Jade will pick things up quickly."
MacComish is a 6-foot-0 athlete from Kingston, Ont. that has played multiple positions for her Pegasus Volleyball Club. Throughout her club career she has won several medals including an 18U provincial championship division two, tier two bronze medal and two Burgarski silver medals. MacComish also competed for Region 6 in the Ontario Provincial Summer Games at 16U.
"Brittany brings a physical presence to our team," said LaRochelle. "She has experience playing multiple positions for her club team and her versatility will be an asset."
LaRochelle went on to add that the trait that he admires most about these two players is their fierce competitive nature.
"Britt and Jade play hard every point. They understand the work ethic necessary to succeed and I have no doubt they will be prepared and ready to compete in September," added LaRochelle.
The Lady Lakers finished the season with a 12-4 regular season record and claimed a provincial bronze medal, their seventh consecutive OCAA medal.
