COLTS, SAINTS PLAY FOR OCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER GOLD
There will be a changing of the guard at the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Soccer Championship.
WINDSOR, Ont. - There will be a changing of the guard at the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Soccer Championship.
The Seneca Sting and Humber Hawks, two programs that have met in the OCAA gold medal game the last three seasons, both failed to make it past the semifinals and will instead play for the bronze medal.
Rather, it will be the host St. Clair Saints facing the Centennial Colts for the OCAA banner. These teams have just one OCAA championship between them, with the Saints winning in 1988 and the Colts never achieving gold. Either way, history will be made on Sunday at Acumen Stadium in Windsor, Ont.
The Saints needed overtime on Saturday to upend West Division-rival Humber 2-1. The Hawks took a 1-0 leading the 39th minute on a goal by OCAA Second-Team All-Star Kaylese Callender (Vaughan). The score remained that way until the 59th minute, when another OCAA Second-Team All-Star, Sierra Lapos (Tilbury), scored the equalizer for the Saints.
With the outcome undecided in regulation, the match moved to overtime. Again it was another OCAA Second-Team All-Star Natalie Kersey (Belle River) playing the hero, scoring the game-winning goal in the second overtime period for the Saints, as St. Clair held on to its most important win this century.
Crosstown rivals Centennial and Seneca met in the other semifinal. Third-year forward Alyssia Devellis (Barrie) scored the lone goal during stoppage time in the opening half, and the Colts shut down Seneca's potent offence to hold on to the 1-0 win. Centennial advances to the gold medal match for the first time since 2000. The Colts stopped Seneca's OCAA-winning streak at 21 matches dating back to last season.
The new OCAA champion will advance to the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer National Championship taking place in Red Deer, Alta.
All games will be streamed on OCAA LIVE.
