ST. CLAIR 5, MOHAWK 2
WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity soccer teams picked up two big wins on Friday afternoon as they hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers at the Main Campus Field.
The women defeated the Mountaineers by a score of 5-2. After falling behind in the first minute of play the Saints bounced back to score three goals in the first 45 minutes to lead 3-1 at the half. Tiffany Trembley scored in the 12th minute to tie it up at one followed by Carley Malenfant in the 35th minute and Kaitlyn Austin in the 41st minute.
Mohawk made it interesting early in the second half scoring in the 55th minute to make it 3-2. St. Clair restored its two-goal lead in the 68th minute on a nice tally by Melanie Daniel. Austin notched her second of the game in the 79th minute to put the game away for the Saints. The game was closer than the final score indicated as Mohawk hit a post and a crossbar midway through the match. Alexandria Samping was solid in net and earned the win turning aside 10 of the 12 shots she faced. The shot attempts for the game were almost even with the St. Clair holding a 23-22 edge.
With the win the Saints improved to three wins and a tie on the season. The loss dropped the Mountaineers record to two wins and two losses on the season. The St. Clair women are next in action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they host the Conestoga Condors at the Main Campus Field.

WINDSOR, Ont. - They scored in the first minute, but the Mohawk women's soccer team would go on to a 5-2 loss at St. Clair on Friday.
Gabrielle Krebs (Brebeuf) put the Mountaineers in front right away, but the Saints bounced back smartly with three unanswered goals before the first half was over. And while Keigan Curran (Niagara Falls St. Michael) brought her team back to within one goal 10 minutes into the second half, St. Clair scored the last two for the win.
Kaitlyn Austin led the Saints with a pair of goals.
Now with a 2-2 record, following back-to-back defeats, the Mountaineers move on to Sarnia, Ont., on Saturday to face the Lambton Lions. Mohawk beat Lambton 2-0 in the Mountaineers home opener Sept. 10.
