SENECA 2, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 0
NORTH YORK, Ont. - Playing their second game of the weekend, the St. Lawrence College women's and men's soccer teams faced the Seneca College Sting on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Seneca's women opened the season with dominating performances over Fleming College (7-0) and Durham College (6-0). The impressive start did not intimidate the Vikings, as SLC would have a number of scoring chances throughout the game, which caught the Sting defenders by surprise.
"We played a phenomenal game on both ends of the field. We could see that we were starting to frustrate them because they were not having the offensive success like they did against Fleming and Durham," said SLC head coach Natasha Agaoglu.
The Seneca Sting would find the back of the net on two occasions, resulting in the 2-0 victory.
"We didn't come home empty handed. We got a great team win over Centennial College, and an important confidence booster in our game today," said Agaoglu.
In the men's game, Seneca would catch the Vikings sleeping forcing a penalty shot in the first five minutes of each half. Second-year goalkeeper, Patrick Sauve, would bail out his teammates on the first attempt but the Sting still managed to score early into each half and take a 2-0 lead.
Gabe Jones would score in the 80th minute to pull within one goal of the tie, but Seneca would reply with their goals in the 84th and 86th minutes, taking the 4-1 victory in the process. The Vikings were outscored by three goals, but with 15 shots on net, SLC were able to create offensive opportunities throughout the game.
SLC is off until Saturday, Sept. 20 when they host the undefeated Algonquin College Thunder. The women's game takes place at 1 p.m., with the men's game starting at 3 p.m.
