LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's soccer team defeated the Lambton Lions (0-5-1) by a final score of 8-0. The win has the Falcons tied for third in the OCAA West Division standings.
The Falcons kept the pressure on right from the start, with a number of early shots on goal and in the eighth minute, Katie Parker broke through with a nice header giving Fanshawe the lead. One minute later, Parker scored again to give Fanshawe a 2-0 advantage.
In the 23rd minute, Daniella Strano had a great left footer to the bottom corner to increase the Falcons lead to three. In the 41st minute, Parker scored her third goal of the half to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead heading into the break.
Fanshawe's defence did a great job keeping the ball out of their half, holding the Lions to just one shot on goal.
The Falcons continued to dominate the play and in the 50th minute, Madison Durr scored a penalty shot to push Fanshawe's lead to five. In the 66th minute, Parker scored on a nice ball from Marissa Oliveira to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead.
Oliveira added a goal of her own in the 78th minute to put Fanshawe up seven. In the 85th minute, Parker scored her fifth goal of the game to cap off a great overall team effort. Fanshawe outshot Lambton 32-3 in the game and went on to win by a final score of 8-0.
The Falcons have clinched a playoff spot but their position is still to be determined. Their final league game is on the road on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. versus the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-3-1).
