WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's varsity soccer team hosted the Fanshawe Falcons on Sunday afternoon at the main campus field and came away with a hard fought 2-2 draw. With the tie St. Clair improved their record to one win and two ties on the season.
The Saints got off to a slow start with Fanshawe carrying most of the play in the first half and taking a 2-0 lead in the break with goals in the fourth and 34th minute. Fanshawe had 11 attempts on goal while St. Clair only had five in the first half.
St. Clair did not back down and Melanie Daniel (Tecumseh, Ont.) got the Saints on the board in the 76th minute. This goal seemed to give the Saints some life and 10 minutes later Alessia Vagnini (Tecumseh, Ont.) got the tying goal on a great free kick from just outside the box.
It was a much better half for St. Clair with the Saints having six attempts and Fanshawe eight. Katrina Arnold (Essex, Ont.) was solid in net making some key saves to keep the Saints in striking distance.
The Saints will travel to Sarnia, Ont., on Thursday afternoon to take on the Lambton Lions. Lambton is 0-2 on the season to date.

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Fanshawe Falcons women's soccer team finished the week 1-0-1 with a win over Redeemer and a draw with the St. Clair Saints. Fanshawe is now 1-1-1 on the season and sit fifth in the OCAA west division.
The Falcons headed to Ancaster, Ont., on Wednesday night for their match up versus the Redeemer Royals (1-2). Fanshawe found themselves down 2-1 before Fanshawe forward Marisa Oliveira started to take over. She not only scored the tying goal, but scored two more in the game for the hat trick as the Falcons went on to win the game 6-2.
The other goals for Fanshawe were scored by Maddison Durr (2) and Rachel Howe.
On Sunday, Fanshawe was on the road versus the St. Clair Saints (1-0-2). Fanshawe started off strong, taking an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Oliveira in the fourth minute of the game. Fanshawe's Katie Parker added another goal and the Falcons went into the half up 2-0.
Unfortunately, the Saints didn't back down and scored two goals of their own in the second half to come back and tie the game.
On Thursday, Sept. 18, Fanshawe hosts the undefeated Conestoga Condors (2-0-1) at North London Athletic Field.
