QUEBEC CITY - The Humber Hawks women's team will play for fifth place at the 2011 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Soccer National Championships on Saturday as they failed to move on to a medal game after a 4-0 lost to NAIT on Friday.
Humber entered the game knowing that they had to win, and had to do so by multiple goals in order to advance to a medal game. NAIT, the Alberta champion, came into a game in full control of their destiny as they had already defeated Ahuntsic to open the 2011 Nationals.
The outcome was never in doubt as NAIT controlled the game from start to finish. They led 2-0 at the half and then scored two more in the second half to put the game away.
Leanne Kadatz scored a pair of goals, with single markers coming from Kelly Tataryn and Jamie Vriens.
Brittany Szcerbakow, who scored twice in Thursday's loss to Ahuntsic, was selected as Humber's player of the game. Tataryn was named player of the game for NAIT.
Humber will now play the University of King's College Blue Devils on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in the fifth place game. You can catch the game live via the Internet at www.ccaasoccer2011.ca.
