EDGERTON HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S RUGBY SEVENS AWARDS
Amber Edgerton (Uxbridge) of Durham College is the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Rugby Sevens Player of the Year.
TORONTO - Amber Edgerton (Uxbridge) of Durham College is the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Rugby Sevens Player of the Year.
The second-year back has the perfect combination of speed, power, ferocious tackling and outstanding rugby IQ. Last season's OCAA Rookie of the Year led all OCAA players with 24 tries, and finished third in scoring adding three converts for 126 points. The unselfish Edgerton had more opportunities to increase personal statistics, but routinely gives up scoring herself in order to set up a teammate. Edgerton headlines the OCAA League All-Stars.
Durham teammate Sarah Clayton (Whitby) is this year's OCAA Rookie of the Year. The novice back is always a threat to attack but is also extremely good defensively. Clayton was the only rookie starter on the veteran laden Lords, who won the regular season championship without losing a match. Named the Best Defensive Team, Durham gave up a league-low 19 points in 14 matches while scoring 594 points. Clayton is also an OCAA League All-Star and headlines the OCAA All-Rookie Team.
Dale Essue of Humber Polytechnic is the OCAA Coach of the Year. In his ninth season at the helm of the Hawks, Essue guided Humber to a 11-3 regular season record, as the team outscored their opponents 327-151. Humber's record is an improvement on an 8-6 mark a season ago.
Abbey Anderson (Waterford) of Conestoga College is the OCAA Scoring Champion. The fifth-year player scored 17 tries while hitting on 32 converts for 149 points. Anderson is also an OCAA League All-Star.
Humber's Meghan Aucoin (Port Perry) is the OCAA Defensive Player of the Year. The third-year wing consistently demonstrates elite defensive instincts, unmatched tenacity, and a relentless work ethic that elevates her Humber Hawks teammates. Aucoin is also an OCAA League All-Star.
Joining Edgerton, Clayton, Anderson and Aucoin are Faiza Faucher-Ahmed (Ottawa) of Algonquin College; Anita Ben (Cambridge) and Brookelyn Butchart (Palmerston) of Conestoga; Camryn Wood (Uxbridge) of Durham; Ashley Smith (Ravenna) of Fleming College; Alison Jodhan-Smiley (Lincoln) of Humber; Faith Ayres (Belleville) and Holly McMaster (Belleville) of Loyalist College; Mia Gadiano (Ottawa) of St. Lawrence College; and Angelina Jahshan (Newmarket) of Seneca Polytechnic.
In addition to Clayton, members of the OCAA All-Rookie Team include Algonquin's Emma Khaimovich (Port Hope); Conestoga's Michelle Schneider (Waterford); Fleming's Shelby Hubert (Bowmanville); Humber's Aniya Blackman-Moncrieffe (Toronto); Loyalist's Rowynn Cochrane (Stirling); St. Lawrence's Alexandria Stewart (Barrie); and Seneca's Madeline McCowan (Collingwood).
