The St. Lawrence Vikings have been a playoff team for the past four seasons, always falling short of a coveted first OCAA medal.
Prior to last season, the Vikings went to the OCAA bronze medal game three consecutive years, only to come away empty handed. Last season, St. Lawrence missed the OCAA semi-finals with a loss to Seneca in the crossovers.
This season, it appears the Vikings are well on their way to a fifth straight trip to the playoffs. St. Lawrence improved to 2-0-0 with a 30-17 win over Algonquin. Second-year wing Michelle Harper (Cobourg) leads the Vikings with three tries in two matches.
The Vikings get their first taste of road action when they visit Loyalist on Saturday.
CONDORS SOAR
The Conestoga Condors are the other 2-0-0 team in OCAA following a 31-5 win at Sheridan.
Second-year forward Scarlette Jarquin (Kitchener) not only scored a try, she added three converts for a game-high 11 points effort.
Conestoga faces its biggest challenge of the season when it takes on defending OCAA champion Humber on Thursday at home.
THIS IS WHY THEY ARE THE CHAMPS
The Humber Hawks were fast out of the gate in their season opener, defeating Mohawk 104-0.
First-year wing Cheyenne De Luca (Etobicoke) scored a trio of tries in the rout while second-year lock Eliane AbouJaoudi (Toronto) booted seven converts.
Humber can move into sole possession of first place in the west region with a win at Conestoga on Thursday.
BRONZE AGE
First-year back Angela Godfrey (Baltimore) made a positive first impression for the Fleming Knights in their 44-5 victory over Loyalist.
Godfrey scored a pair of tries to lead all scorers with 10 points. Godfrey is a positive addition for a team that is trying to return to the OCAA final four for the third straight season.
Fleming is the two-time reigning bronze medalists.
