ALGONQUIN 57, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 0
KINGSTON, Ont. - It's always hard to prepare for a game against the Algonquin College Thunder, as the team has a well-known women's rugby program with a history of success in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA), most recently being named OCAA co-champions with Humber College in 2012-13.
It only takes one stat to know how dominate the Thunder are this year. They have scored 183 points for in just four games (averaging to 45 points per game), and have never been scored against in all four games.
"You never say this as a coach but you go into a game against Algonquin wanting to try new things to better prepare yourself for the following game. The team is just so far ahead of other colleges in the OCAA that it's nearly impossible to keep up against them," said Vikings head coach Gary Peacock.
"The forwards struggled against a stronger pack, but did not give in. They showed improvement in defensive alignment especially on our goal-line where they made a number of long drawn out defensive stands. The backs made a number of attacks using some new plays but were not able to end up with a score," Peacock added.
"I am proud of the players, they never once backed down or gave up, they battled to the end."
SLC is currently tied for second in the OCAA East Division with Fleming College, both with 2-2 records. The Vikings next game takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they defend their second place position against Fleming College.
