CONESTOGA 39, SHERIDAN 10
CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - After splitting their first two games of the season on home turf, the Sheridan Bruins women's rugby team (1-2 OCAA) took to the road for the first time, but a slow start saw them fall into a deep hole early on and they were never able to threaten the lead in a 39-10 loss to Conestoga.
"It's pretty disappointing, we thought we should have done better collectively as a team," Sheridan head coach Matt Piemontese said. "We had a good week of practice, a good week of training. Conestoga came out really hard right from the opening kickoff. We had a hard time handling their backs, they tackled extremely well and they really out-rucked us and picked up on our loose balls, but we definitely picked up the intensity in the second half."
Conestoga jumped all over the Double-Blue early, scoring a pair of tries in the first 12 minutes.
They would carry that momentum into a 22-0 halftime advantage, before the Lady Bruins were able to re-group and get something going.
Jessica Rowley received the second half kickoff, broke a trio of tackles just inside the Sheridan half and then broke free of the pack to score the first try for the Lady Bruins.
They were unable to maintain that momentum however and never drew any closer to Conestoga's lead.
Marsha Jones later added a second a try for the Double-Blue.
The two sides will square off again next week in the Sheridan home leg of the home-and-home series on Oct. 10 (4:30 p.m).
