ALGONQUIN 64, FANSHAWE 48
TORONTO - The first game of Day 3 at the belairdirect OCAA Women's Basketball Championship was between the Fanshawe Falcons and Algonquin Thunder.
Both teams played well trying to secure their spot in the bronze medal game. The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle with both teams fighting hard from opening tip-off. At the end of the first quarter, Algonquin led 15-11.
The Falcons did not go down without a fight and went on a 6-0 run in the second quarter. But the Falcons were on the short end of a 29-23 score entering halftime.
Each team played well and played hard until the final buzzer. Algonquin was victorious 64-48 and will now advance to the OCAA bronze medal game.
Algonquin had the two top scoring players, Francesca Bellehumeur-Moya (Ottawa) and Felicia Mazerolle (Elliot Lake, Ont.), both scoring 18 points. Mazerolle also added nine rebounds.
Fanshawe's high scorer was Laura Vere (Stratford, Ont.) who scored eight points with four rebounds. The Falcons player of the game was Stephanie Antwi (Toronto) who scored six points with three rebounds.
