ST. CLAIR 73, DURHAM 60
WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team advanced to the OCAA provincial championship tournament later this week with a 73-60 crossover playoff victory over Durham College (Oshawa, Ont.) Sunday afternoon at the SportsPlex.
Overcoming some early nerves and a good Durham fast break the Saints used their height to earn the win. St. Clair held an 18-15 lead after the first quarter and increased its lead to 31-25 by halftime.
But the Saints decided the game in the third quarter winning the frame 20-11. The Saints held a 48-33 advantage in rebounding and shot well enough in the second half to outlast the visiting Lords who rallied late with 24 points in the fourth quarter.
St. Clair guard Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg, Ont./General Amherst) led her team in scoring with 17 points shooting 7-of-9 from the free throw line while adding three assists. Saints guard Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph) scored 15 points adding 13 rebounds for the double-double but distributed well for seven assists. Twin tower forwards Torrie Handsor (Wallaceburg, Ont.) and Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) both reached double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. Handsor added eight rebounds for the near double-double.
Durham's Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) reached her league leading OCAA average with 25 points in the loss.
