ALGONQUIN 73, DURHAM 34
OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team was unable to pull off an upset over the top-ranked Algonquin Thunder as they fell 73-34 at the CRWC.
Coming off an 80-23 victory over Fleming one day earlier, the Thunder carried that momentum into Saturday's match-up as they led from start to finish. Algonquin improved to 12-0 this season, having outscored their opponents 726-447. They are the No. 1 rankedteam in Ontario and fifth in the country.
Sandra Bascoe, who is averaging 14.5 points per game, led all scorers for Algonquin with 25 points while teammates Holly Ryerse and Jesa Rada had 10 points apiece in the win.
It was a pair of freshmen who led Durham in scoring as Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) and Katelynn Shields (Courtice, Ont.) had eight and seven points respectively. Shields also had six rebounds in only 12 minutes of court time.
Lords freshman Stephanie Legebokoff (Windsor, Ont.) led both teams in rebounds with seven.
The Lords are 2-9 this season but will look to jump ahead in the standings as they have back-to-back games against the two teams they beat in the first semester.
Durham will head to Barrie on Wednesday, Jan. 23 to take on Georgian College. The Grizzlies are winless this season at 0-11.
