LOYALIST 69, DURHAM 62
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team cut a 19-point deficit to just three points in their home opener against Loyalist, but the Lords ultimately fell short as they were defeated by a score of 69-62.
Early in the fourth quarter, Loyalist starting guard Haley Sisler hit a three-pointer to put the Lancers up 58-39. Durham seemed to find an extra gear as there was a momentum switch. The Lords went on a 20-4 run to shrink the Lancer lead to just three points. However, Durham's run finally came to an end as the Lancers scored the next six points to and eventually won by a final score of 69-62.
Keriann Sullivan was the leading scorer for Durham with 17 points, as the second year guard went 6-for-11 from the field with five free throws made. Sullivan also had six rebounds and two assists.
Kelsey Hare was one rebound short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds while Kenesha Stinchcombe-Brown and Stephanie Legebokoff had 10 points apiece.
Despite getting into foul trouble early in the first quarter, Loyalist managed to limit their mistakes to pick up their third win of the year.
Melyssa Holder was the leading scorer for Loyalist with 13 points while Samantha Goff had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Loyalist won the battle of the boards 48-36, including grabbing 23 offensive rebounds.
The Lords are 0-2 to start the year while Loyalist improves to 3-0.
Durham's next action will be on the road on November 14 against the St. Lawrence Vikings. Game time in Kingston is at 6 p.m.
