OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team had a tough start to their season on Friday night as they played the two-time defending OCAA champion Algonquin Thunder in Ottawa. In the end, the Thunder were just too much for the young Durham squad as they walked away with a 65-34 victory in their home opener.
Algonquin dominated the first half as they led 36-11 after two quarters. Durham wouldclaw back into the game closing the gap at times, but Algonquin managed to earn the two points.
Kelsey Hare and Alicia Del Fuoco led Lords in scoring with 8 points a piece.
Keriann Sullivan and Stephanie Legebokoff had strong defensive efforts, trying to shut down the Thunder's top scorers.
The Lords will look to bounce back and pick up their first conference victory on Tuesday night when they host the Loyalist Lancers. Tip off at the CRWC is at 6 p.m.
