ALGONQUIN'S NATIONAL TITLE HOPES END IN CCAA QUARTER-FINALS

TRURO, N.S. - The Olds Broncos rode the hot hand of CCAA player of the year Jylisa Williams to earn a 77-54 victory over the Algonquin Thunder and a berth into the semifinals at the 2013 CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship on Friday.

The ACAC champions were led by Williams as they have all season. The two-time ACAC Athlete of the Week capitalized on numerous fast breaks to lead her team with 14 of their opening 39 points in the first half. At the halftime break, Olds were up 39-27.

While the Thunder put up a fight to close the deficit, it was the Broncos who held on until foul trouble caught up to Olds College in the third quarter.

With Williams forced to sit out, it was Algonquin's chance to shine. The Thunder was only down 50-43 after three quarters but Williams' return to court seemed to snuff out any remaining hope for the OCAA champion. The Broncos only collected 11 more points in the final quarter.

The Olds Broncos, who will move on to face the winner of the Mount St. Vincent vs. Nomades de Montmorency quarter-final Friday at 7:15 p.m., also received offensive production from Melanie Hogue. She had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Thunder collected 16 points from Abeer Farhat and 11 points from Sandre Bascoe. Algonquin will face the loser of the Mount St. Vincent vs. Nomades de Montmorency quarter-final game Friday at 12 p.m.
