NIAGARA WINS GRIZZLIES INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT
BARRIE, Ont. - The Niagara College Knights Women’s Basketball team had a successful weekend winning all three of their games at the Georgian College Grizzlies Invitational Tournament in Barrie.
BARRIE, Ont. - The Niagara College Knights Women's Basketball team had a successful weekend winning all three of their games at the Georgian College Grizzlies Invitational Tournament in Barrie.
On Friday, the Knights would open the tournament with a 60-44 win over Nouvelles Frontieres from Montreal, Quebec. Amanda Pepin (St. Catharines, Ont.) would lead the Knights in scoring with 18 points. Shelby Johnston (Welland, Ont.), Allana Arundell (Toronto), and Anita Cloutier (St. Catharines, Ont.) each contributed with 10 points.
On Saturday, the Knights came out strong with a 67-59 win over Trois-Rivieres to advance to the tournament championship.
In the finals, Niagara's Allana Arundell led the Knights with a season-high 24 points in their 72-52 win over the Algoma University Thunderbirds.
Arundell was named Tournament MVP, while Amanda Pepin selected a first team tournament All-Star.
The Knights will continue their pre-season exhibition play this
weekend when they travel to Peterborough on Saturday to play the
Fleming College Knights, and Belleville on Sunday to take on the
Loyalist College Lancers.
The Knights will begin their 2011-2012 regular season with their
home opener against the Sault College Cougars on Saturday, November
5. Game time is 1 p.m.
Fans who bring a canned food item for the SAC Food Drive will get
free admission into the home opener.
