TORONTO – Humber College is pleased to announce the hiring
of Ajay Sharma as the head coach of the women's
basketball team.
Ajay, a top assistant with Humber's very successful men's
basketball team from 2004-10, returns to the Hawks after a year as
an assistant in the OUA with the Ryerson Rams. While with Humber he
helped lead the Hawks to four OCAA provincial titles in six years,
and his impact carried over as Humber added another championship
this past season
Former Hawks head coach Denise Perrier has left
the head post to pursue other opportunities within the basketball
community. Sharma inherits a solid squad that has finished second
in the OCAA West Division over the past two seasons, registering a
very respectful 22-6 regular season record.
His fifteen years of coaching experience includes being the bench
boss for teams at all levels, from club teams, high school teams
and most recently stints with a number of provincial teams.
"Ajay is not only a winner wherever he has coached, and has been a
proven contributor to Humber basketball success for years," said
Humber Director of Athletics Doug Fox. "His move
to the head coaching position with the women's basketball team is
well deserved, and should garner success quickly."
The Humber Hawks participate in the Ontario Colleges Athletic
Association, which has nineteen teams from across the province
competing for provincial honours. The provincial championships will
be held at Seneca College on March 1-3, 2012.
