HAMILTON, Ont. - After seven straight wins to start the season, the Mohawk men's volleyball team has dropped two straight five-set matches to fall to 7-2, completing the first semester. And the decisions were eerily similar.
At Redeemer on Nov. 24, the Mountaineers fell behind by two sets, rallied to tie, then lost the fifth set 15-12. Back at home Saturday, Mohawk saw the Niagara Knights jump out to a 2-0 lead. Once again, the Mountaineers clawed their way back before losing 25-20, 25-18, 12-25, 24-26 and yes, you guessed it - 15-12 again.
Eric Girard had 20 kills and one stuff block for Mohawk. Trevor McLaughlin had 12 kills, one service ace and two blocks. Bryce Marcussen added 10 kills and one block.
It was a big decision for Niagara, as it improved to 6-2. Sameh Khodr paced the Knights with 20 kills, and one block. Jeff Scott had 14 kills and four aces and Nathan Snippe also produced 14 kills and four blocks.
Both of Mohawk's volleyball teams return to OCAA action Jan. 14, 2016, against the same Niagara Knights. But this time, the matches will be played at Niagara's Welland Campus.
