CANADORE 3, FLEMING 2
NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Canadore Panthers men's volleyball varsity team played a very emotionally-invested game and picked up a win in five sets against a very big Fleming Knights team today.
Coming off their first regular season win last night again Trent University, the Panthers continued strong to win the first set with a score of 25-12. Both teams fought very hard in the second set and pushed the score to 31-29 in favour of the Knights. Each team picked up a win in the next two sets before the Panthers prevailed in the fifth and final set to beat the Knights 17-15.
A huge key player in today's game, Dan Trudel, played through an injury during the last part of the game and took not only the player of the game award, but also the top scorer, picking up 27 points, which included 21 kills and five service aces. After the game, Trudel said, "After losing in five sets for the first two games of the season, we knew exactly what we had to do to win. When we were down in the fifth set today 12-9, we had our backs against the wall, and as a team, we knew we could pull through and in the end we did."
Assistant coach, Marc Denommee, was with Trudel in saying, "Because we lost two games, we were able to change our defensive strategies at the net to stop their middles, which were by far their biggest asset and it's what really helped us win this game. That and making sure our serving was strong, which it was."
