NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Lakers Men's Volleyball Program is
happy to announce the commitment of Eric Girard
(Ottawa, Ont.) and Michael Ballagh (Teeswater,
Ont.) to attend Nipissing University in the Fall of 2012.
"I am very excited to have Michael Ballagh and Eric Girard join
our program." said head coach Eric Yung.
Girard a 6-foot-3 left side hitter played high school volleyball
for College Catholique Franco-Ouest and club volleyball for the
Ottawa Fusion. Girard is majoring in English.
"Nipissing has a great volleyball program, great residences and
lots of one on one interaction with the professors," said Girard.
"I am looking forward to going to school where my parents grew
up."
Yung added that he was incredibly impressed with Eric's ability
during a training session over the Christmas Break. "Eric brings a
fury of energy to the court and has great physical attributes for
our level of play," said Yung.
Ballagh a 6-foot-1 left side hitter is enrolled in the Bachelor of
Physical Health and Education program with the goal of becoming a
teacher. He led his Madill Secondary School high school team to an
OFSAA (AA) antique bronze in 2010 and a bronze medal in 2011.
"I have had my eyes on Michael since the 2010 AA OFSAA where he
led his team to an Antique Bronze. He is an extremely athletic left
side that should stabilize our ball control as well as contributing
to our potent offence," said Yung.
"I am hoping both Eric and Michael will make immediate impact on
our program, they along with couple of returning left sides will be
competing to be in the starting six."
