FANSHAWE 2, ST. CLAIR 2
WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's varsity soccer team continued their OCAA regular season schedule as they faced the top-ranked Fanshawe Falcons from London, Ont., on Saturday afternoon at the Main Campus Field in their final home game of the season.
The St. Clair men got off to a quick start against Fanshawe going up 1-0 in the 11th minute on a nice goal by Martin Nyul (Hungary). It didn't take long for Fanshawe to tie the game up after Shane Beaton (Windsor) made a nice save on free kick, but a Falcon put the rebound in the back of the net in the 25th minute. The score at half was 1-1 with Fanshawe holding a slight edge in shot attempts 7-6. Beaton made four saves in the half compared to two for the Falcon keeper.
The Saints got off to a great start in the second half as Dillon Hayes (Amherstburg) scored in the 48th minute. However, this seemed to wake the Falcons up as they put the pressure for most of the second half. Beaton made a couple of huge saves late in the half to keep the Saints ahead. However, Fanshawe finally got one by him in the 85th minute to knot the score at 2-2 after a nice cross. Fanshawe had 12 shot attempts in the second half while the Saints had five. Beaton made five saves in the half compared to one for the Fanshawe goalie.
With the draw the Saints record on the season is now 4-2-1 which puts them in third place in the OCAA West Division. Fanshawe moved their record to 6-0-2 to remain unbeaten on the season. The Falcon men are ranked second in Ontario and fifth in Canada. The St. Clair men are on the road Wednesday night to take on the Lambton Lions in Sarnia, Ont.
