FANSHAWE 3, MOHAWK 0
LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe men's soccer team defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (0-1-1) by a final score of 3-0. This win improved the Falcons record to 2-0-1 on the season.
The first half was very evenly matched, as both teams battled the rain and a soaked field. A shot by Fanshawe striker Mike Marcoccia, followed by an Alberto Barquin rebound was the closest chance for a goal. The game remained tied at the half, with a score of 0-0.
The second half brought a hungry Fanshawe team, controlling most of the play. In the 57th minute, Marcoccia scored on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Then, Fanshawe's Daniel Amaya-Romero dangled a Mohawk defender and struck a shot that hit both the crossbar and post. Barquin was there for the rebound, scoring in minute 82. Shortly after, the Falcons sealed the deal, when Fanshawe's Raymond Trudell had a beautiful cross to Jacob Atkinson, who made it 3-0. Goalkeeper Luke Siroen was solid, making today's game his third straight shutout.
Next Saturday, Sept. 26, the Falcons will take on the Conestoga Condors (0-0-1) at the Fanshawe Soccer Field. The last time the teams met, the final result was a 0-0 draw. The game begins at 2 p.m.

LONDON, Ont. - The Mohawk soccer teams headed to Fanshawe College in London, Ont., on Saturday and came back empty handed in OCAA action.
The home town Falcons blanked the Mountaineers 3-0 in the men's game. A second yellow card and resultant red to the Mohawk goalkeeper didn't help the situation.
Meanwhile the women's team was blasted 10-1 by Fanshawe. Rachelle DeJong's late tally was the only bit of consolation for the Mountaineers.
