SENECA ADVANCES TO NATIONAL MEN'S SOCCER SEMIFINAL

COQUITLAM, B.C. - The first game of the 2012 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship kicked off with OCAA wild card representative Seneca Sting upseting the No. 1-seeded SAIT Trojans of ACAC 1-0.

The Trojans player of the game was Piotr Pestka, and for Seneca it was Lamin Kamara.

The Sting took the lead just minutes into the game when Jorge Perez sunk a floater over the Trojans keeper after a hand ball call against the Trojans. The Trojans defence was a little shaky coming out of the gate but found their feet deeper into the game.

Pressure by the Trojans almost saw a turn-around 20 minutes into the game, when the offence got in their first clean shot, which was scooped up by the goalkeeper. Another shot was brilliantly deflected over the net by Seneca defence.

Seneca has several good scoring opportunities late in the half but failed to capitalize again. Forward Michael Duran was a stand-out, pressuring the left side and peeling off a shot just wide of the net a half hour in.

The Trojans cranked up the heat in the second half, forward Jaron Broom dominating on the left side. He cranked in a dramatic shot off Seneca keeper Peter Durst, but failed to get past him.

Gbenga Ajibulu of the Trojans had a couple of opportunites in front of an open net, but failed to get on target.

The intense game concluded with a yellow card against Seneca and two red cards against the Trojans.

Seneca will face Humber in an all-OCAA national semifinal on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET. Humber defeated François-Xavier-Garneau 2-0 in its quarter-final match.

Humber defeated Seneca 2-0 in the OCAA gold medal match last month.
