ANCASTER, Ont. - In their first game action of 2017 the St. Clair men's basketball team fell 96-81 to Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont., on Saturday afternoon.
Redeemer quickly built a 28-13 lead after the first quarter shooting 67 per cent from the field and the Saints trailed 44-34 by halftime. Needing a strong third quarter, St. Clair struggled and gave up 29 points and countered with only 14. The Saints were just 5-of-20 from three-point range and were out rebounded 42-31 in the game.
Will Lara-Caston (Windsor, Ont./JL Forster) led St. Clair with 20 points with teammate Anthony Limbombe (Windsor, Ont./St. Anne) contributing 18 points and five rebounds. Gil Atencio (Panama City, Panama) had a double-double scoring 13 points to go with 11 rebounds for the Saints while swatting away three blocked shots. Jermaine Lynch (Windsor, Ont./JL Forster) and Lance Drummonds (Hamilton, Ont.) each also reached double figures for St. Clair scoring 10 points apiece. Drummonds also added 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Redeemer's Rayvon Higdon (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a game-high 22 points in the win adding 13 rebounds and 12 assists for the triple-double.
