HAMILTON, Ont. - The Mohawk men's and women's basketball teams both improved their records to 2-1 at the expense of arch rivals Redeemer in OCAA play at Mohawk's David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre on Friday.
The Mountaineer men handed the Royals their third straight defeat, 104-76, as Matt Fennell scored 31 points and added seven rebounds. Matt Savell had 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists; Taylor Dowhaniuk notched 14 points, had 14 rebounds and five blocked shots; and Andrew Cicuttini scored eight points and added nine boards and seven assists.
The Mohawk women dropped Redeemer to 0-3 with an 89-67 verdict. Stef Hrymak paced the Mountaineers with 24 points. Jen Jen Abella scored 18 points and added six rebounds and five assists. Careena Browne produced a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Brittany Gazzola scored 12 points and managed four boards.
