HUMBER 71, SENECA 53
BRAMPTON, Ont. - The first semi-final of the 2014 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship is now set, after a stifling defensive performance by the Humber Hawks powered them past Seneca, 71-53, and into a showdown with Algonquin.
The game was close through much of the first quarter, until Humber closed the frame on an 11-0 run to lead 21-7 after one.
In the second period they pushed their lead as high as 20, before settling into a 36-19 halftime lead.
Early in the fourth quarter the Hawks had staked themselves to a commanding 64-36 lead, but the Sting replied with a 13-0 run.
That would prove to be as close as they would get however, and it would be the Hawks that would advance in the championship bracket.
Seneca will now move into the bronze medal bracket, playing the Durham Lords in the first bronze quarter-final.
Tyrone Dickson scored 12 points while hauling down 16 boards for Humber, with Greg Edelsward (11) and Brandon Sam-Hinton (11) were other Hawks to post double-digit scoring totals.
Calmar Morgan scored a game-high 17 points for Seneca, with Elijah Brown (10) and Jamal Boyce (10) also hitting double figures.
