ST. CLAIR 64, LAMBTON 60
WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair men's basketball team earned a hard fought and low scoring 64-60 win over Lambton College Friday night at the campus gym.
Trailing 18-12 after the first quarter the Saints limited Lambton to just two field goals and six points in the second quarter and entered half time up 26-24.
Both teams loosened up a bit in the second half with some better outside shooting but the game was won on the block for St. Clair who held a 45-42 advantage after three quarters and a 39-24 difference in rebounds.
The teams traded the lead in the fourth quarter several times until St. Clair's fifth-year swing player Jamaal Thompson (London, Ont./Holy Names-Windsor) took a back door feed and threw down a baseline dunk while being fouled with just over a minute to play. He left the game and the three-point play was completed by Stephan Gray (Milton, Ont./Bishop Reding) to give the Saints a 62-60 lead that they never relinquished.
David Younan (Leamington, Ont./Cardinal Carter) showed some fine post play and led St. Clair with 14 points to go with six rebounds. Alex Temesy (Amherstburg, Ont./General Amherst) and Matt Nuna (Windsor, Ont./Catholic Central) each chipped in with 10 points apiece. Xavier Jones (Tecumseh, Ont./L'Essor) had an impressive seven assists to go with seven points from the point guard spot for the Saints.
Shawn Hill had a game-high 18 points for Lambton in a losing cause.
The St. Clair men's basketball team travel to Sudbury next weekend to face Cambrian College in a pair of games Saturday and Sunday.
