DURHAM 87, SENECA 82 (FINAL)
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team came up with an 87-82 victory over the Seneca Sting on Wednesday night at the CRWC.
Holding a 68-43 lead in the fourth quarter, it looked as if Durham was going to cruise into the playoffs with a one-sided victory. That is when Seneca turned up the tempo in their game, going on to outscore Durham 39-17 to cut the lead to just three points with under a minute left on the clock.
Down the final stretch, Durham managed to tighten up on defence and force a Sting turnover, while senior Tyler McGarrity capped the game off with a lay-up.
Mussie Haile led the late Seneca charge with 23 points in the fourth quarter, which included five three pointers. He finished the night with 31 points to lead all scorers.
Kevin Honig had 18 points for the Lords to go along with seven rebounds while Christoff Pierre had 15 points and four rebounds. Tyler McGarrity had eight points and seven rebounds in the win.
Durham (12-8) finished conference play in a three-way tie for third place in the OCAA east region with St. Lawrence and Georgian. The Lords end up in fifth place due to OCAA tie-breaking procedures and will have an OCAA championship qualifying game in Hamilton on Saturday against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Game time is at 2 p.m.
