ALGONQUIN 91, DURHAM 88 (FINAL)
OSHAWA, Ont. – Rob Gagliardi of the Durham College men's
basketball team scored 38 points in the Lords home opener on Friday
Night, but it was not quite enough to lift the Lords to victory as
they fell 91-88.
Coming back from a 24-point deficit, Gagliardi had a half-court
buzzer beater shot to tie the game up, but the attempt fell just
short as the Thunder picked up the win.
Gagliardi made 13 shots including nailing seven three pointers in
the loss. He also had six rebounds, three steals and one block. The
Whitby native is averaging 24.4 points per game this season to lead
all scorers in the OCAA.
Tyler McGarrity also had a standout performance as he had a season
high 22 points. The Lords senior hit nine free throws including
some big ones down the stretch as the Lords looked to pull off the
comeback.
Leading the way for Algonquin was Chris Mooney and Romaine
Lawrence who had 27 and 22 points respectively.
The first quarter was the Lords Achilles heel as they were
outscored 24-8. Durham was able to close the gap, but ultimately
fell short after the slow start.
The No. 3 OCAA ranked Thunder improve to 5-0 on the year while the
Lords drop to 2-3.
Durham will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon as they take on
the La Cite Coyotes. Game time is at 1 p.m.
