duties with the Barrie Central Phoenix.
Georgian College Manager of Athletics Michele
McConney said, "We are excited to have Matt on board as
our new men's basketball coach. He is extremely qualified and will
bring a wealth of passion and knowledge that will help continue the
progress Steve has made."
Coulson is no stranger to basketball in Barrie. A former Grizzly,
he served as the program's assistant coach for three seasons, and
has coached with the Barrie Royals and Eastview Secondary School
programs.
"We feel it will be a smooth transition for him and are confident
in his abilities to lead the team," added McConney.
"Steve has done a great job of getting the program going in the
right direction and I hope I can continue the growth of the
program. I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to the
challenge," said Coulson.
The team recently completed tryouts and Coulson is excited at the
talent level. "We plan to employ an up-tempo style that emphasizes
pressure on both ends of the floor," he said.
Fans will get their first look at this year's edition of the
Grizzlies on Saturday, October 15th when they host the Algoma
Thunderbirds at 8:00 p.m. on the Barrie Campus.
