HAWKS CAPTURE WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER PROVINCIAL TITLE
VAUGHAN, Ont. - The Humber Hawks won their fifth Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) women's indoor soccer banner in the past seven championships, outlasting the Centennial Colts 3-2 in the gold medal match.
VAUGHAN, Ont. - The Humber Hawks won their fifth Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) women's indoor soccer banner in the past seven championships, outlasting the Centennial Colts 3-2 in the gold medal match.
With the victory, Humber secured its record 12th overall OCAA banner.
The Hawks went 1-1-1 in round robin play on Mar. 6, being outscored 4-3. Humber rallied the following day, narrowly defeating the Conestoga Condors 1-0 in the semi-finals before defeating the Colts. The Hawks have reached the podium at 20 of 33 championships.
Humber third-year forward Chantel Spalla (Mississauga) was named Championship MVP while Hawks fifth-year defender Hayley Lewis (Mississauga) was named a Championship All-Star.
Centennial third-year goalkeeper Jordyn Chrons-Slaght (Pickering) was named Top Goalkeeper, while fourth-year player Emily Cullen (Pickering) and second-year teammate Vanessa Lima (Toronto) of the Colts were named Championship All-Stars.
In the bronze medal game, the St. Clair Saints edged the Conestoga Condors 2-1. St. Clair second-year defender Lily Collins (Windsor) was named a Championship All-Star.
