The 14th World University Golf Championship gets underway today with Team Canada among 17 nations vying for team and individual titles at Ypsilon Golf Resort in Liberec, Czech Republic from July 3-6.
The 14th World University Golf Championship gets underway today with Team Canada among 17 nations vying for team and individual titles at Ypsilon Golf Resort in Liberec, Czech Republic from July 3-6.
Team Canada, comprised of six male and five female standout competitors from post-secondary golf programs across the country, will square off against opponents from the USA, Switzerland, Spain, Slovakia, Norway, Ireland, Finland, Great Britain, South Africa, France, Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Italy, and the host Czech Republic, in 72 holes of stroke-play competition.
Team Canada's Men's Squad features Charles Côté (Thetford Mines, Que. / Université Laval), Simon McInnis (Toronto, Ont. / University of Waterloo), Ben Bell (Ottawa, Ont. / Humber College), Gajan Sivabalasingham (Ballantrae, Ont. / University of Waterloo), Chris Bevan (Toronto, Ont. / Humber College) and Chris Hemmerich (Kitchener, Ont. / University of Guelph).
Team Canada's Women's Squad features 2012 Canadian University/College Champion Devon Rizzo (Brantford, Ont. / University of Waterloo), 2012 NAIA Champion and 2012 Canadian University/College Championship runner-up Megan Woodland (Victoria, B.C. / University of Victoria), 2011 Canadian University/College Champion and 2011 NAIA Champion Kylie Barros (Edmonton, Alta. / University of British Columbia), and the University of Victoria's Alyssa Herkel (Port Alberni, B.C.) and Brynn Tomie (Bedford, N.S.).
While all competitors will be involved in the their respective male and female individual competitions, the team event will feature four competitors on the men's side (with the three best results each day counting towards a team total) and three competitors on the women's side (with the two best results each day counting towards a team total).
