Hawks shot a 72 on Thursday and now sits seven strokes behind the
leader with one round to play at the 2012 Canadian
University/College Championship at Cordova Bay Golf Course in
Victoria.
A total of 14 student-athletes from a trio of Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) programs are competing this week
against the top university and collegiate golfers in Canada. In
all, 154 male and female golfers are competing for both team and
individual titles.
Bevan is currently at plus-two following three rounds, good for a
share of 12th place. Max Gilbert of Laval University leads after 54
holes at five-under par.
After posting back-to-back rounds of 75, Humber's Ben
McFaul shot a 68 to move within 10 strokes of Gilbert.
Ben Bell's 67 was his second sub-70 round of the
tournament and is at plus-seven heading into Friday's action.
Humber teammates Alex Dumais and Conor
Hache both shot 72 for their best scores of the
tournament. Dumais now sits at plus-nine, while Hache is at
plus-22.
The defending champion Humber men's team has improved to fourth
place following play on Thursday, but are now 33 strokes behind
first place Laval.
David Lang of the Durham Lords shot a 73 and is
now at plus-six after three days. He along with each member of the
Humber Hawks will advance to the final round. The field will be
reduced on Friday to the top 10 men's and the top six women's
teams, as well as any teams and individuals within 15 strokes of
the lead.
There is further incentive for the OCAA student-athletes remaining
in the field, as the top six males following Friday's final round
will receive an exemption into the 2012 World University Golf
Championships.
Durham's Tiffany Albath and Kayleigh
Kraemer shot their best rounds on Thursday, but it wasn't
enough to extend their stay at Cordova Bay. Albath shot a 75, but
just missed the cut by one stroke. Albath is 16 strokes behind
women's frontrunner Alyssa Human of the University of British
Columbia. Kraemer shot a 76 and is 20 strokes behind Human.
Starting times, post-round results and a full field list for the
Canadian University/College Championship are available on the Golf
Canada website.
