ROSENEATH, P.E.I. - Student-athletes from six Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) schools have made their way to Prince
Edward Island to take part in the 2011 PING Canadian Collegiate
Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships.
OCAA is coming off one of its best-ever performances at the
championship. OCAA and defending CCAA men's champion Humber made
history in 2010 when three of its golfers swept the podium.
David Lang, Mark Hoffman and
Adrian Cord finished 1-2-3 to mark the first time
that all three CCAA men's individual medalists came from the same
school. Combined with Niagara College's Chad
Currie and Humber's Greg Belisto, the top
five men's golfers at the tournament came from Ontario colleges.
Humber's team title was supported by Georgian's third-place men's
team finish.
OCAA was just as dominant on the women's side in 2010. Teammates
Tiffany Albath and Kayleigh
Kraemer earned individual silver and bronze medals,
respectively, to lead Durham to the CCAA women's team
championship.
A strong field of OCAA golfers have made their way to the Brudenell
River Golf Course in Roseneath, P.E.I. Two-time OCAA men's champion
Hoffman joins silver medalist Cord as they look to defend Humber's
national title. Hoffman won the OCAA championship by one stoke over
Cord in early October. OCAA bronze co-medalist Alex
Dumais, Ben Bell and Conor
Hache all placed in the Top 10 at provincials as Humber
easily won its sixth straight OCAA men's crown.
Georgian finished second behind Humber at the OCAA championships,
and are led by Eric Adamo, Paul
Ngimat, Keegan Tyers, Frank
Giacomelli and Nolan Knill. Adamo was the
top Georgian golfer at the OCAA tournament finishing in sixth
place, eight-over par. All five Grizzlies placed in the Top 20
provincially.
Durham finished in third place, and will take five men to
nationals. David Lang (no relation to the
defending CCAA champion) is looking for redemption after a
scorecard error cost him the OCAA bronze medal earlier this month.
Lang posted two rounds of par or better at provincials prior to his
disqualification. Teammates Adam Miller,
David Pinkerton, Sean Perkins and
Kyle Roy will also represent Durham.
Representing Fanshawe at nationals are Ethan
O'Meara, Taylor Booth, Connor
Denning, Chris Feenstra and Ryan
Stewart. Fanshawe finished in fourth place at
provincials.
The other male competitor from OCAA is Brennan
Smith of St. Lawrence-Kingston. Smith tied Dumais for OCAA
bronze earlier in the month after posting consecutive rounds of
one-over par.
Seven women will complete for OCAA schools in P.E.I., including
OCAA women's champion Albath and silver medalist Kraemer, as they
look to defend Durham's women's national title. Two-time OCAA
bronze medalist Jasmine Paton will represent
Georgian, along with teammate Nicole Belcourt.
Representing St. Clair are Ashley Unrau,
Heather MacKenzie and Jordan
Schatz.
Golfers will enjoy two days of practice before the competition tees
off on Wednesday. The 54-hole tournament will run Wednesday to
Friday.
