Student-athletes are nominated by their respective athletic departments.
Brandon Bogart
School: Fanshawe
Program: Developmental Services Worker
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: St. Thomas, Ont.
Brandon Bogart's fourth quarter heroics guided the Fanshawe Falcons to a narrow 70-66 home victory over the Lambton Lions on Nov. 19, ending a three-game losing streak. Brandon scored nine of his team-high 17 points in a fourth quarter where the Falcons offence ignited for 27 points on 8-of-14 (57.1 per cent) shooting. The third-year guard finished the evening with six rebounds and six assists and was the orchestrator behind Fanshawe's offensive attack. Brandon is averaging 13.3 points for the Falcons in seven games this season.
Ben Brouwer
School: Redeemer
Program: Kinesiology
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Ancaster, Ont.
Ben Brouwer had one of the greatest single-game performances in Redeemer Royals history. The second-year setter recorded an astonishing 53 assists on home court in a five-set match against Redeemer's West Division rival Niagara Knights on Nov. 21. Ben's performance puts him second in program history for assists in a single match. When not quarterbacking the offence, Ben was helping out the Royals defensively with 15 digs. With Ben at the helm of the Redeemer offence, Royals attackers recorded a hitting percentage of .358.
Presley MacLeod
School: Seneca
Program: Firefighter, Pre-Service Education & Training
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Osler, Sask.
Presley MacLeod continues to be one of the top performers for the East Division-leading Seneca Sting offensively in a pair of straight-set sweeps this week. Presley recorded 10 kills, a service ace and a pair of blocks against the Loyalist Lancers on Nov. 22. Against the St. Lawrence Surge one day later, Presley had 15 kills, two aces and eight digs. The first-year outside hitter is currently fourth among all OCAA student-athletes in kills per set (3.9) and second in hitting percentage (.447) on the season. Seneca is a perfect 7-0.
Taryn Mitchell
School: Algonquin
Program: Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Port Colborne, Ont.
In her first season with the Algonquin Wolves, Taryn Mitchell has made an immediate and all-around impact. On Nov. 22, Taryn delivered a standout performance against the George Brown Huskies with a team-high 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a narrow 66-65 loss. Taryn followed this up the next day with an impressive triple-double, recording 33 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists while adding five steals in an 87-77 overtime win against the Centennial Colts. Taryn currently leads the OCAA averaging 20.0 points per game.
