TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Oct. 26.
Student-athletes are nominated by their respective athletic departments.
Aleah Anderson
School: St. Lawrence
Program: Nursing
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Casselman, Ont.
Aleah Anderson was a leading force for the St. Lawrence Surge in their much anticipated return to OCAA women's volleyball. The first-year middle contributed 10 points on seven kills with no errors and three stuff blocks while adding 10 digs in St. Lawrence's straight sets sweep of the Fleming Phoenix on Oct. 24, winning their home opener in convincing fashion. Aleah achieved a hit percentage of .350 in the match. While early, the Surge join East Division stalwarts Algonquin, Durham and Seneca who have undefeated records.
Jayme Foreman
School: George Brown
Program: Social Service Worker
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
Jayme Foreman was stellar in George Brown's home opener at St. James Campus on Oct. 21. The fifth-year guard went 7-of-18 (38.9 per cent) from the field for a game-high 22 points while adding three assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals in a 76-71 win over the Georgian Grizzlies. Jayme also drained four three-pointers. After winning just three games last season, a 1-0 start for the Huskies against a program that has finished second in the East Division the past two seasons is something else to be excited about in downtown Toronto.
Emmanuel Milfort
School: Durham
Program: Electrical Engineering Technician
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Rugby
Hometown: Oshawa, Ont.
Emmanuel Milfort delivered a dominant defensive performance on Oct. 24 as the Durham Lords came from behind to defeat the Conestoga Condors 19-12 and preserve their undefeated season. From start to finish, Emmanuel was a defensive powerhouse, shutting down the attack and making statement tackles that turned the tide of the match. Emmanuel inspired a massive turnaround in the match with his physical presence and anchored the defensive effort. At 6-0, the regular season champion Lords earn a bye into the OCAA semi-finals.
Jared Prinsloo
School: Redeemer
Program: Honours Psychology
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Burnaby, B.C.
Jared Prinsloo had a monstrous week for the Redeemer Royals. On Oct. 22, the fifth-year outside hitter recorded a hit percentage of .385 with a match-high 12 points in a three sets home victory over the Sheridan Bruins. Jared also contributed five service aces and four digs. The Royals narrowly lost to the St. Clair Saints in five sets on the road three days later. Despite a losing effort, Jared posted a .455 kill percentage with a team-high 11 kills. Jared also contributed five digs. Redeemer has a litmus test at Humber this Saturday.
Jason Sache
School: Georgian
Program: Massage Therapy
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Kanata, Ont.
Jason Sache was instrumental for the Georgian Grizzlies in two big road wins to start the regular season. On Oct. 21 at George Brown, Jason scored 10 points in the final quarter to allow Georgian to break away for the 90-83 victory. The third-year forward finished the night with 18 points on 8-of-14 (57.1 per cent) shooting while adding four assists and three rebounds. At Centennial three nights later, Jason scored a team-high 25 points in the 97-94 win, shooting 10-17 (58.8 per cent) from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
