LONDON, Ont. - Fanshawe College has found its next Manager of Athletics. After an extensive search, the announcement was made today (Monday) that Nathan McFadden will head the department. McFadden takes over from Mike Lindsay, who retired earlier this year after 41 years at the helm.
McFadden's résumé includes 19 years of experience
in sports management and administration at both the professional
and university levels. It includes four years as Manager of Hockey
and Team Operations with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey
League (AHL), an affiliate with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the
National Hockey League (NHL), in which he led the club's day-to-day
hockey operations in addition to its media relations, community
relations and game operations departments.
"We are excited to welcome Nathan to build on our already-strong
program," said Heather Cummings, Fanshawe College
Executive Director of Student Success. "The search to fill this
position took us coast-to-coast and Nathan's résumé
speaks for itself. We are looking forward to having him lead us
into the next stage of Fanshawe Athletics."
In 2007-08, he was a part of a Marlies team that set the Toronto
Maple Leafs all-time affiliate records for wins and points in a
season, along with capturing the club's first regular season and
playoff division titles. He also led the Marlies to record totals
in community relations appearances.
McFadden most recently worked as a scout for the St. John's
IceCaps and Manitoba Moose Hockey Clubs.
Prior to joining the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, he spent
six years at the AHL head office in Springfield, Massachusetts, as
the League's Manager of Hockey Operations. There, he was
responsible for the central registry, which included the approval
of player contracts, player eligibility, and roster transactions in
addition to the compliance of the AHL's by-laws, regulations,
policies, and procedures with the AHL collective bargaining
agreement.
McFadden also assisted with creating the league's 1,120 game
schedule, rule development, supplemental discipline, the AHL
All-Star Classic and created the AHL's digital video system.
A graduate of the University of New Brunswick (UNB), McFadden
worked in UNB's athletic department for two years as the Director
of Sports Information, the tenure of which included the Varsity
Reds men's hockey team's 1998 CIS National Championship.
"I am extremely honoured and very excited to join Fanshawe
College's Athletics team and look forward to building upon a
successful program that is a leader in both the Ontario College
Athletic Association (OCAA) and Canadian College Athletic
Association (CCAA)," McFadden said. "Fanshawe College is a
highly regarded academic institution and a leader in student
focused experience. We will carry forward the innovative
programming for our students, the community and our alumni as part
of an active healthy lifestyle."
"The Falcons intercollegiate varsity athletics program will
emphasize character, community involvement, and
championships. We will continue to be a leader in academic
and athletic excellence and a premier destination for student
athletes."
McFadden will begin his duties on December 3.
