OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan College Athletics and Recreation
Department announced today their Hall of Fame class for 2012, with
three individuals and two teams set to be inducted on September 29
during Sheridan's annual Homecoming Festivities.
"We couldn't be prouder to have this cross-section of individuals
ready to join our Hall of Fame later this fall," said athletic
director Jim Flack. "They collectively represent a
key philosophy for our department and we are looking forward to
celebrating their tremendous achievements."
2012 Inductees
Steve Blundy - Will be enshrined as a legacy
inductee because of his sweeping contribution to the double-blue
over four decades. Blundy was an athlete of the year as a hockey
player (1968); he accumulated more wins (128) as head coach of the
Sheridan men's hockey team than anyone else; and he served as
facility manager at the Trafalgar Campus gymnasium for over 20
years.
Pat Blundy - Will be inducted as a builder,
having coordinated the recreation and fitness programs in Oakville
for over 20 years and serving as a varsity coordinator for both
women's volleyball and women's hockey during her tenure.
Luciano DeLuca - Sheridan's all-time scoring
leader in men's soccer, DeLuca scored 31 goals for the double-blue
in three seasons from 1985-87. In his freshman season, his 10 goals
led the club and helped them post a 9-1-2 OCAA West record. They
were OCAA runners-up - losing to the eventual national champions
from Seneca - and just missed out on a national medal by losing the
bronze medal game in extra time to Capilano.
1976-77 Men's Hockey - After compiling a 15-3
OCAA conference record, the double-blue won the regular season
conference title but were upset in the OCAA playoffs. However, as
the host team, they still qualified for the national championship
tournament. They beat Dawson 3-2 in the quarter-finals and squeezed
out a 4-3 double-overtime victory over Cape Breton in the semi
finals before falling in the national title game to Red Deer.
1990-91 Men's Soccer - After finishing the OCAA
West regular season with a 6-2-2 record, the Bruins really picked
up their play once the post-season began. They thrashed Durham 4-1
in the semi finals and then edged out Mohawk 1-0 in the title game.
In the national championship tournament in Truro, Nova Scotia they
won Group A after steam-rolling the Nova Scotia Agricultural
College and drawing Mount Royal. They then beat Ahuntsic to advance
to the championship where they fell to Capilano 5-3.
