CANADORE 2011-12 ATHLETIC AWARDS
Canadore College Athletics held its 43rd Annual Athletic Awards banquet on Friday, April in the Canadore Dining Room at the Education Centre Campus.
Canadore College Athletics held its 43rd Annual Athletic Awards banquet on Friday, April in the Canadore Dining Room at the Education Centre Campus. Award winners were honoured for their achievements and dedication to Panther Athletics in the 2011-2012 academic year.
Varsity Male Athlete of year -
presented by George Burton
The Male Athlete of year, recognized for his outstanding
achievements in men's volleyball, is Dan Trudel.
Trudel was a leader on the Canadore Panthers team all season long.
His hard work and dedication to his game this year has paid off
immensely. He dominated offensively finishing the season fifth
overall in the OCAA for kills with 219. Among OCAA players, Dan
finished the season fifth overall with 3.22 kills per set, sixth
overall with 241 overall points, and eighth overall with 3.5 points
per set. Dan represented Canadore College as an all-star in the
OCAA All Star Game on March 17 at Fleming College,
Peterborough.
Varsity Female Athlete of year -
presented by George Burton
The Female Athlete of year that is recognized for her outstanding
achievements on the women's volleyball is Liza
Grenon. This year, Liza was named as an OCAA women's
volleyball all-star. She competed in the All-Star game on March 17
at Fleming College, Peterborough. Liza has played tremendously this
season and has dominated both offensively, totaling 218 kills, and
defensively, with 105 digs. She has been an OCAA leading statistics
holder throughout the entire season. She finished the season second
overall with 218 kills, second overall with 3.69 kills per set,
second overall for total points with 269, second overall with 4.6
points per set, and 11th overall with 41 service aces. After
reading these impressive statistics there is no doubt that Liza is
not only an all-star on the Canadore Panthers' women's volleyball
team but also in the OCAA. She has represented Canadore extremely
well, both on and off the court, all season long. Canadore
Athletics is very proud of all that she has accomplished in her
year as a Canadore Panther.
Kris Clement Memorial Award -
presented by Kim and Bruce Clement
Kim and Bruce Clement congratulate the second recipient of the
Kris Clement Memorial Scholarship at Canadore College, Pat
Rideout, from the men's ice hockey team. The scholarship
criteria states that a male candidate should be studying their
first or second year of the three-year accounting program, hold a
minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average, be social and active in college
life, and participate in athletics — either varsity sports or
intramurals, with preference given to an applicant involved in a
hockey program.

Club Player of the Year - Lakeisha
Thelwell, Women's Indoor Soccer
Lakeisha is the captain of the women's indoor soccer team and one
of the teams' top scorers. As a veteran on the team, she brings not
only her soccer skills and ability but also leadership and
dedication to the team.
