CONESTOGA 12, SENECA 1
For four innings, fans were treated to a competitive game of two, evenly matched teams. The teams made great plays defensively, held runners on and played exciting fastball. Unfortunately for one team, that parity didn't last for all seven innings.
Conestoga came out swinging in the top half of the fifth and exploded for four runs to blow open the game. The Condors put runners on and sent their catcher to the plate. Hillary Heighton delivered with a two-run single to the shallow outfield which was later scored an error.
The bats of the Condors combined with the defensive lapses of the Seneca Sting led to the fifth run on a pop-up to right field. The fielder had the ball pop out of her glove allowing the runner to score from third. The final run of the inning came off the bat of Corinne Armstrong, scoring Heighton on the play.
Seneca made it a 6-1 game in the sixth after Lauren McLaughlin led off with a triple. Shannon Gould drove in the run on a sacrifice fly to deep left field.
The Condors would pour salt onto the wound in the seventh as they tagged the home team for six runs in the inning.
Carly Holbrough got the scoring started as she lined a hit to right field to score two of her teammates. Katie Tilley followed up with an RBI on a slow roller to first base for an infield single to make the game 9-1. Shortstop Tori Taylor came to the plate next and delivered a lined shot to the power alley in left centre to score two more runs. Taylor sped around the bases for a stand-up triple and would be later brought home for the final run of the game by Heighton.
Conestoga opened the scoring in the first on an RBI single by Heighton. They picked up their second run of the game in second unearned on an infield single by Emma Budziarek.
Seneca (2-4) gets back in action on Sunday as they travel to play the St. Clair Saints (3-3) at 12 p.m. while Conestoga (3-3) will host St. Clair Saturday in a double header at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
