DURHAM 8, HUMBER 1 (FINAL)
ETOBICOKE, Ont. – The Durham College women's fastball team opened up conference play with a two-game sweep over the Humber Hawks. Durham shutout the Hawks 11-0 in game one and had an 8-1 win in game two.
Shannon Galea pitched a five inning shutout for Durham in game one as the veteran pitcher allowed one hit and struck out five batters enroute to the win.
The Lords bats were hot right from the opening pitch as they put up two runs in the first inning and seven in the second. Janna Hagan and Jenna Dupuis were the top hitters for DC as they both went 3-for-3 and combined for five RBI's. Melissa Semeniuk had a team high four RBI's in the win.
2010 OCAA championship top pitcher Kristine Miles recorded the win in game two, allowing one run on two hits. Alexandra Mallett pitched the seventh inning to close out the game.
Durham once again had consistent hitting throughout the line-up, which head coach Jim Nemish was glad to see after the delayed start to the season.
Dupuis, Brittany Bell and Shannon Ferguson each had two hits in the win. Bell also stoodout on defence with five put-outs.
The Lords will travel to Kitchener to take on the Conestoga Condors on Saturday, October 1. The weekend doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m.
