MOUNTAINEERS TAKE CONTROL ON DAY 2 OF 2026 OCAA CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Action continued Thursday at the Dixie Curling Centre as Day 2 of the 2026 OCAA Curling Championships featured two more draws of round robin matchups.

With Day 2 in the books, the standings began to shift and set the stage for a decisive final day of round robin play on Friday.

Men's Curling

The Mohawk Mountaineers (3-0) are the lone undefeated team in the men's division at the end of Day 2 with a pair of wins on Thursday.

Mohawk opened the day with a highly anticipated rematch of last season's OCAA gold medal game against the Humber Hawks (2-1). After Humber jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three, the Mountaineers responded in multiple ends to swing momentum and secure a 5-3 win. They carried that form into draw three, defeating the Durham Lords (1-2) 10-5. 

The Niagara Knights (1-2) bounced back from their opening-day loss with a dominant performance against the Confederation Thunderhawks (0-3), posting nine points across the fifth and sixth ends before cruising to an 11-3 win by concession.

After losing to Mohawk, the Hawks grabbed a key victory over Niagara to finish the day with a split. In a tightly contested draw, the Hawks held a narrow 6-5 lead after six ends before capitalizing with the hammer, scoring three in the seventh to seal a 9-5 win.

The Sault College Cougars (2-1) had a great start against Durham in draw two, but saw the Lords steal points in each of the final three ends to complete a late comeback in a 6-5 Durham victory. After the loss, the Cougars dominated Confederation with an 11-3 win, as the Thunderhawks were the only men's team to drop both of their games on Thursday.

Women's Curling

On the women's side, the Mohawk Mountaineers (3-0) followed in the footsteps of the men's program and picked up two more wins to top the standings.

In draw two against the Humber Hawks (2-1), Mohawk levelled the game with a four-point fourth end and applied late pressure to steal points in both the seventh and eighth ends to secure an 8-5 victory. The Mountaineers controlled the hammer in the next draw and closed out a comfortable 9-3 win over the Durham Lords (1-2).

Earlier in the day, the Lords delivered the most dramatic finishes of the championship so far against the Sault College Cougars (1-2). Trailing 8-4 after seven ends, Durham had a massive four-point steal to force an extra end, then added one more steal to complete a 9-8 comeback victory.

The Niagara Knights (2-1) entered draw three with momentum after a win in draw two over the Confederation Thunderhawks (0-3), highlighted by a five-point seventh end in a 12-9 decision. But they were unable to carry that energy against Humber, as the Hawks controlled the middle ends to earn a 7-3 win and split the day.

The Thunderhawks couldn't rebound later in the schedule despite having the hammer against the Cougars. Sault scored across the final five ends to secure an 8-3 win.

What's next?

The draws will continue on Friday with the final day of round robin action. Draw four is scheduled for 10 a.m. and draw five for 2 p.m. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
