WELLAND, Ont. - The Niagara College Department of Athletics
& Recreation is pleased to announce the addition of
Bailey Cochrane to the men's volleyball program.
Cochrane plays the libero position and competed for the Barrie
North Collegiate and Durham Attack volleyball teams before joining
the Knights.
Knights head coach Nathan Groenveld commented,
"we are looking forward to Bailey growing and developing into an
impact player in the OCAA. With his ability to naturally read the
game and execute technically at a very high level, Bailey will help
solidify our passing and defensive game."
The 6-foot-0 native of Barrie, Ont., enjoyed a break out 2012-13
season with the dominant 18U Durham Attack club program. Cochran
will join his Durham Attack teammate Cole Palma on
the court for the Knights beginning in September.
With his family on hand for a media event held at the Welland
Campus Athletic Centre, Cochrane said, "I'm really excited to be
joining the Niagara College Knights. The college offers a high
performance program looking to finish number one in the country.
With the support that the college provides for athletics and the
coaching staff the team has in place, I feel like Niagara is the
best option for me to compete at the highest level."
Cochrane will enroll in the Business Sales and Marketing program
beginning in September, and academics proved to be the determining
factor in the 18-year old's decision to attend Niagara College.
"I chose Niagara College obviously for the academics. I read about
the Sales and Marketing program and took a campus tour with Coach
Nathan and Intercollegiate Coordinator Ray Sarkis.
After doing this I felt the overall atmosphere of the school and
the amazing campus were something I wanted to be a part of."
Niagara College Manager of Athletics & Recreation
Matthew Davies commented, "over the last few weeks
our men's volleyball program has done an outstanding job in
recruiting at the highest level. Student-athletes of Bailey
Cochrane's caliber are key pieces that will aid in the creation of
a high performance culture at Niagara College."
When questioned about his goals during his time at Niagara,
Cochrane responded, "I want to excel in academics and enjoy my time
in a new city. On the court I want to be the best player I can be,
while helping my teammates become the best players they can. My
ultimate goal as a Knight is to be a national champion."
Coach Groenveld expressed his excitement regarding the addition of
a well rounded student-athlete like Cochrane. "Bailey's off court
character and work ethic will make him an instant fit in our
community. He will quickly show our fans he knows how to compete
the Knights way. He is a skilled, hard working and character
student-athlete that we are extremely excited to have as a member
of our program."
