ALGONQUIN 3, DURHAM 0 (FINAL)
OSHAWA, Ont. – In an entertaining match at the CRWC, the Durham College men's volleyball team were unable to hand the Algonquin Thunder their first loss of the season as they were defeated by a score of 3-0.
Set scores in the match were 25-18, 26-24 and 25-21.
Algonquin is 15-0 this season and have only dropped three sets. Durham pushed the Thunder to the brink on Friday night, but were unable to pick up the points they needed to put the Thunder away.
The 3-0 loss was Durham's first of 2012, putting an end to their four game winning streak.
PJ Cornelius of London had 13 points including 12 kills for Durham, while teammate Steve Clarey (Baltimore, Ont.) had nine points. Clarey became only the fourth Durham College player to reach 500 career points.
Dave McMann (Elmvale, Ont.) had three blocks in the match, bringing his season total to an even 60. The OCAA single season record for blocks in a season is 69.
Tom Alayon (Whitby, Ont.) led the Lords on defence with 12 digs.
The Lords offence had a tough time solving Algonquin middle Ian McAlpine, as he recorded 10 points, five of which were blocks.
Durham (11-4) will look to go .500 this weekend as they host the La Cite Coyotes (6-8) on Saturday night at 8 p.m.
